– Pulaski Elementary-Middle School receives two new playscape structures from Quicken Loans –

DETROIT, August 6, 2015 – Detroit-based Quicken Loans has partnered with Carter’s Kids, a nonprofit dedicated to developing community parks and playgrounds for children, to build two brand new playground structures at Pulaski Elementary-Middle School in Detroit’s Osborn neighborhood on the city’s east side. The playscapes were built, in part by volunteers from Quicken Loans, over a three-day span and culminated in a ribbon cutting ceremony with celebrity TV host and Michigan-native Carter Oosterhouse, founder of Carter’s Kids to unveil the new playgrounds.

“When I heard that the students of Pulaski were taking recess in their indoor gymnasium every day because the school’s playground equipment couldn’t support their needs, I knew this had to be our first project in Detroit,” said Oosterhouse. “It’s long been a dream of mine to start making an impact in Detroit, and I know this won’t be our last project in the city. I have to thank the Quicken Loans volunteers – their enthusiasm was unbelievable.”

Students ranging from pre-K to eighth grade attend Pulaski Elementary-Middle School. The school previously had only one piece of playground equipment, which couldn’t support the amount of students or the full range of ages during recess.

The two new playscapes include a set designed for younger elementary students and a second designed for the older students.

“The development of these playgrounds will have a noticeable impact on the students and families in the Osborn neighborhood,” said Leslie Andrews, Director of Community Relations for Quicken Loans. “When combined with all of the volunteer work that is happening elsewhere in the neighborhood this week, you can feel a new energy and feeling of hope, and we’re proud to just play a small role in that.”

The playground development at Pulaski complements the week of beautification work in the Osborn neighborhood during the same timeframe, which included 2,000 Quicken Loans volunteers and was organized by the Detroit nonprofit, Life Remodeled.

Carter’s Kids oversaw the development and planning for the project, while Quicken Loans provided funding and more than 100 volunteers to help with assembly and construction throughout the week.
