Livonia, Mich. – May 07, 2010 – Quicken Loans, the nation’s largest online retail mortgage lender, Fathead, the leading brand in sports and entertainment graphic products and Junior Achievement of Southeastern Michigan recently partnered in a job shadowing day with Harrison High School of Farmington Hills.

Quicken Loans and Fathead team members from the company’s Livonia headquarters hosted 30 students, during a day designed to give students a unique and up-close look at the workplace.

Students “shadowed” volunteers at Quicken Loans as they went through a typical day on the job, seeing how the skills they have learned in school apply to the workplace. They also participated in a resume writing class and toured the headquarters as part of their day.

“As the workforce becomes more competitive, it’s even more important that we teachers and community leaders expose our kids to real life work experiences. Students need to see, first hand, how the skills that they learn in school directly relate to the skills that they need to become successful professionals,” said Valada Sargent, Harrison High School math teacher.

Junior Achievement of Southeastern Michigan’s Job Shadow program gives more than 600 students this year the opportunity to experience the world of work and learn about the expectations of many careers. Karen Kosniewski, JA’s President said, “Junior Achievement truly appreciates the opportunity to work with Quicken Loans and Harrison High School to prepare our future generation for successful careers.”

“We really enjoyed having students from Harrison High School here to experience the culture and dynamic environment we work in on a daily basis,” said Todd Lunsford, President, Fathead.

“This is a great opportunity for Quicken Loans to invest in the community and make a difference in the lives of area high school students,” said Wendy Kemp, Director of Community Relations, Quicken Loans. “This is our fourth year participating in this program. Our team members really enjoy partnering with Junior Achievement in this annual event.”

Junior Achievement is a recognized leader in job shadowing and a key member of the National Job Shadow Coalition, which also includes the U.S. Department of Education, the U.S. Department of Labor and America’s Promise Alliance.
